My Pregnancy Week 23

Brought to you by
Pregnancy Week 23

Your baby continues to grow and develop inside of you. He is now about the size of a papaya, measuring approximately 11 inches long (now measuring crown to heel, rather than crown to rump), and weighing about 1 pound. In the coming weeks, your baby will continue to grow and mature at a fast rate, gaining about 6 ounces of weight a week. By week 23, the blood vessels in his lungs, important for breathing outside the womb, are developing. His lips are becoming more distinct, and his eyes continue to develop, though they still lack color.

Also, by this week, the bones in her middle ear start to harden. Her skin is still wrinkled, but the pigments, which will give her skin color, are currently being deposited.

If you are having multiples, they may have separate sleeping schedules.

There are a couple things that can decrease birth control efficacy…off the top of my head, I know some antibiotics decrease efficacy and some people are very sensitive to the time you take your pill. If my SIL was off by an hour, she started getting cramps. Just ideas….

        • Megan Klay says:

Hi there, The concern is if you were to get into an accident. I personally would stop riding on it, but I’m a worrier when it comes to motorcycles. You need to make the decision you feel is right for you and your baby. Best wishes!

  15. Regina says:

I’m 23 weeks 1 day today with my fifth child and last. We have a 15 yr old girl, 10 yr old boy, 2 1/2 yr old boy and a 1 1/2 yr old boy. This one is a girl. We are excited and concerned I’m 37 and I’m feeling everything my hands and feet swell and I have restless leg syndrome at night. She is on my bladder so I go to the bathroom constantly. We only have one hospital where I live and it stinks no neonatal unit so if your baby needs extra care it gets transported 2 1/2 hours away plus you have to pay bridge tolls and if you have other kids they can’t come. We also only have one inhumane office here so we can’t shop around for good Dr. I’m glad this one is my last cause I hate where we live we don’t have options like others do. But so far my baby is healthy and I hate going to my appt. Cause these Dr where they are the only ones won’t listen to your concerns and if you have questions they make you come back at a later time.

  23. Carol says:

We are on a budget for this, our first, and probably only baby. What are the items that we will really need? It is so hard to know what is necessary and what would be just nice to have.

    • Hi Carol. Congratulations on your baby. As a baby, I slept in a drawer for a long time, so I figured, if I turned out fine in a one of those, then my kids would be okay without some of the things that people told me that I “needed” for a baby. My babies slept in a hand-me-down play yard, I didn’t think twice about getting them a crib. Aside from the essentials, i.e. diapers, wipes, formula, bottles, some clothes, a few blankets, a car seat, I bought very few other things; I bought the most inexpensive baby swing and umbrella stroller that I could find. If I were to suggest anything that is a non-essential, that would make your life as a new parent easier at times, then I would suggest those two. Here is an article from another mother about the things that she feels are necessary Good luck!

  24. jessi says:

We are also pregnant again. I thought I was the only one out there going through this our son just turned 13 and here we are pregnant again but we have been trying for almost 10 years and then all of a sudden BAM it happened. it is just a pure blessing we are very excited and scared all at the same time also. our one concern is that our son will be jealous and act out since he has been the only one for 13 years. that uses a lot of my stress just knowing that there’s other mommies out there going through the same thing. I myself love reading on this also.
